ABOUT visiting steinbeck house

The public is invited to visit the Steinbeck House by making a reservation at least 24 hours in advance. Visits are free, but reservations are required! Each person needs their own reservation. If you do not have a reservation, you will not be able to visit the Steinbeck House. All visits are approximately one hour in length.

There are two options for visiting, with directions to the property provided via email the day before your visit: 

1. REGULAR Saturday Visit:

   The house will not be open to the public on regular Saturday tour dates. While parking is not permitted on the immediate roads, you can drive close to the property then tour its beautiful 1.6 acres and Steinbeck’s writing gazebo. A parking map with directions will be sent to all those with a reservation.
   

2. Holiday Open House Weekends:

   Both the grounds and the home will be open. On these holiday weekends, registered visitors must use the free shuttle from Baron’s Cove Hotel located at 31 W. Water Street. You will receive more detailed information about the shuttle in your confirmation email.

No parking is permitted on the immediate roads at any time. This is a quiet residential area and parking is extremely limited. To arrange handicap parking or for further inquiries, please contact admin@steinbeckhouse.org. Please try to carpool to the shuttle on the Holiday Open House Weekends or to the area closer to the site on Saturday Visit dates.

Once you make your reservation, you will receive a confirmation email. You will also receive a reminder email 24 hours before your visit with additional information.

*Cancellation Policy*

If you need to cancel your reservation, you can do so by emailing admin@steinbeckhouseNY.org or through your confirmation/reminder email. Please let us know if you need to cancel so that your spot will be available to others on the wait list.
